JCCC Cosmotology Student Give Back

JCCC Cosmotology student spent their Saturday creating "Up-Do's" for their clients.

Area high school girls were pleased with the service - as they were headed to Prom later that night.

It was a great service to the High School girls,

. . .and a great opportunity for the JCCC students - an entire day of Up-Do's!  A win-win for all concerned!

BeBe + Alice at Ric Rac Roundup's Summer Event

Hot fun in the Summertime! What a scorcher it was in Westport on Saturday - even more so for the lovely and talented Heather Baker of BeBe + Alice! And "Why?" you may ask. . . because Heather came from Estes Park, Colorado to participate in this year's event. It's a little cooler with the breeze coming off Lake Estes!
BeBe + Alice "offers handmade goodness mixing vintage, upcycled and recycled with a pinch of new" to create delightful, one-of-a-kind pieces.

Heather's offerings include fashions for women and wee ones, hair ornaments, stationary sets and journals, hop-scotch sets, and home decor. See more from Heather at http://www.bebeandalice.com/ or visit her Etsy site: www.etsy.com/shop/bebeandalice

Here are Brooke and Nancy helping Heather put the finishing touches on her booth before the crowd took over! Thanks for a fun morning, ladies!

Florida Trip

Santa was very good to Dan this year. As you may recall, he received plane fare to Tampa, and tickets to see his very favorite band - Yonder Mountain String Band in Ybor City. Ybor is part of Tampa, like Westport is part of Kansas City. Actually, Ybor is very much like Westport.
Ah - Yonder's Tour Bus. Dan stopped me while walking down the street to introduce me to someone. I thought it was one of the many friends he's met while following the band around. I was introduced as his mom who gave him this cool trip for Christmas. This guy, then says, "Hi, I'm Ben. You'll be seeing me play bass tonight." Really nice kid - and a great bass player!Ta-da! Here they are (Ben is second from the left)Dan knew tons of people there. This is random guy on the left, with Gary from Lawrence on the right - sporting a D-Boogy Brim, by the way. Gary has been on the entire winter tour. There will be more of the Florida trip coming up in the next post.

Locks of Love

Dan decided once again to again donate his hair to Locks of Love - so the first step is to brush it out, band it up, and get the scissors!
To donate for a wig for a child, the ponytail has to be at least ten inches long. The section in the back isn't quite that long, but hair that they cannot use, is sold to support the mission which is: . . . "to return a sense of self confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to disadvantaged children."The first time Dan donated was when he cut his hair to start off his senior year of high school, back in 2006. I think this current crop has been growing about two years.
The chop-job done on the ponytails produced quite a rad look. Drew is not really sure of what he's gotten himself into! But he happily joined in the process and fixed the mess I created.I might add - Drew did a fabulous job with the clippers! I think I recognize that handsome face!
. . .and the "After" photo. . . what a difference. Thanks for the great help, Drew. And thanks Dan, for really giving of yourself!

Extremely Thankful Thanksgiving

The Saturday before Thanksgiving is not the day we usually celebrate the holiday . . .. . . but this one is very special. Please meet Tommy C. here with his daughter, Shelley.Several weeks ago, Tommy went in for a fairly straightforward surgical procedure, and then - long story short - no one (except God, of course) thought Tommy would ever see another Thanksgiving. So Shelley and Tommy's sister Bev hosted a wonderful afternoon full of friends and family. Here is Tommy with Bryan. And, being who I am; I got some grandchildren shots for Bev, and we just kept rolling for awhile.

We needed shots of each family group
as well as Bev's entire gang. To keep the kids attention, we promised goofy shots at the end. . . .. . .they were all very impressive! Thanks so much Bev and Shelley, for including us in this most wonderful Thanksgiving celebration!

Busy, Fun Weekend!

We had a busy weekend at the Pavilion with two events with start times only 19 hours apart. I don't know how Kathy does it! We had a great surprise Friday, with Mark showing up for a visit from San Francisco. His parents are celebrating their 60th anniversary this weekend, so congrats to them! And I'm thinking, "Time Warp" here. It's 2009, isn't it? This image is totally 1979 - except for the bald heads, grey hair, extra weight, and wrinkles, but hey - who cares about that stuff when the old gang is back together ? - Johnson, George, Mark and Kevin. Saturday, we had a wedding and reception. Here I just can't pass up the opportunity to take an image of the photographer taking an image. Coincidentally, our bride Mandy is a nurse at Olathe Med where I spend my "first job" time.George is always ready to help keep us going with his great attitude and totally random jokes and stories. After the wedding and reception were over on Saturday, we somehow had enough energy to head over to Touche's to help celebrate Maria's birthday. We we hardly able to catch a word with her because she was on the dance floor the whole night.
Charlie and Valerie came awhile later and enjoyed watching the disco queens (Kathy and I) on the dance floor. I handed my camera to Kevin to hold and did not realize he was snapping away. Fortunately, I have a crop tool, so nothing embarrassing (to me) will turn up here - or on Facebook.George and Joel had a little time to catch up. We also ran into other high school friends, Danny, Jill and Dan. It was an impromptu reunion. What fun!
Here Jill is trying hard to keep up with Kathy.
Happy Birthday, Maria! We sure enjoyed celebrating with you!

Ziggy Hoop Dance

We had fun yesterday when Ziggy came over to show us some new moves - along with a new costume she designed and made. She is talented in every way - but disappointed that she wasn't more flexible - what?!? She also designed and made the wire-wrapped necklace she's wearing.
I guess what she ? lacks ? in flexibility, she makes up for in balance!
Check out Ziggy's Etsy site for custom jewelry and costumes, and for information on upcoming Hoop Classes! Just click on the title of this post and you'll jump straight to her site!

The Artistry of Jean Simmons

Jean Simmons is a lovely lady from Larned, Kansas, who loves to plan events and she decorates like none other! A few weeks back, she brought her crew of three to decorate for her daughter's wedding at the Pavilion in Shawnee. I have never seen anything as beautiful! Take a look at the Head Table: They offered a fabulous cookie bar - all home-made treats!

Here is a look at the little mice that enjoyed the party!Another view of the cookie bar. Jean and her crew did ALL the flower arrangements! The room smelled as beautiful as it looked. Each table and place setting was another work of art.

The cake table was a dream come true - not only Jean's beautiful decorating, but a delicious cake from our friend, Lynne Mueller at Icing on the Cake! Thanks, Jean - it was a fabulous! I know Emily and Thad were thrilled to be the centerpiece of such a beautiful evening.
